A single Schengen visa lets you visit 29 European countries. Getting one from Nairobi is not difficult if your application is complete and consistent, but refusals are common when it is not. Here is the process we follow with our clients.
Where to apply
Apply at the embassy or visa centre of the country where you will spend the most nights. If your time is split equally, apply to the country you enter first. Most Schengen states in Nairobi use a visa application centre (such as VFS Global or TLScontact) for biometrics and document submission.
Timeline
- Three months before travel: finalise your itinerary, book refundable flights and hotels (we provide confirmed reservations for this purpose).
- Six to eight weeks before: book your appointment. In peak season (May to August and December) appointments can be scarce.
- Two weeks before the appointment: assemble documents. Bank statements must be the most recent three to six months.
- Processing: 15 calendar days is standard, but allow up to 45 in busy periods.
Documents checklist
- Passport valid at least three months beyond your return, with two blank pages, plus old passports.
- Completed application form and two recent photos to the exact specification.
- Flight reservation and full itinerary.
- Hotel confirmations covering every night, or an invitation letter with the host’s ID and residence proof.
- Travel insurance with at least EUR 30,000 medical cover, valid across Schengen. We arrange this.
- Proof of funds: bank statements for three to six months, payslips, and for business owners, registration documents and company statements.
- Proof of ties to Kenya: employment letter with approved leave dates, business registration, property documents, family ties.
- Cover letter explaining the purpose and plan of the trip.
Why applications get refused
- Large, unexplained deposits into a bank account shortly before applying.
- Itinerary, hotel bookings and flights that do not match each other.
- Weak evidence that you will return: no job letter, no business, no family ties shown.
- Applying to the wrong country for your itinerary.
- Insurance that does not meet the minimum cover or dates.
How we help
For every Europe package we build the itinerary, provide the hotel and flight confirmations, arrange compliant insurance and review your documents before the appointment. We cannot guarantee a visa, but a tidy, consistent application is most of the battle. See our Europe Classics trip or ask us to plan something different.
